RATSHIT STRAP: Roller Hockey, Riffs & Rebellion

ree

If punk's a party, Ratshit Strap just kicked ya door in.

Meet the 4 piece punk renegades raising hell throughout the 6160.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a CAKE cover band implodes and leaves behind a trail of bass riffs, broken drumsticks, and roller hockey bruises, meet Ratshit Strap. Born in 2022 from the ashes of “Prolonging the Nugget” (yes, really), this Freo-based punk outfit is loud, fast, and allergic to taking themselves too seriously.

Seb (bass & lead vocals), Jez (guitar & vocals), Maz (guitar & vocals), and Mick (drums) are the kind of band that’ll shout truth into your pint, then make your nan a hot cuppa if the venue aircon is too high. Ratshit Strap see themselves as more than a band, they’re a chosen family, bonded by music, mischief, and playing roller hockey weekly. As long term members and players in the Street Roller Hockey League, Ratshit Strap confirm it’s rowdy, nostalgic, and very on-brand. “Another flashback to the 90s,” they say. The camaraderie offstage fuels the chaos and connection they bring to every gig.

Their sound is punk rock with a side of existential dread and a dash of “fuck the system”. Think Dead Kennedys meets Descendents, with a sprinkle of Quebecois chaos courtesy of Les Marmottes Aplaties and Plastic Bertrand. Inspired by great local bands such as Last Quokka and Ratsalad, Ratshit strap like to have a good scream and a good time, whether that be in English or French as lead singer Seb hails from the Poutine Providence of Canada.

Their songwriting process is a democratic free-for-all: bring an idea, jam it out, and if it

slaps, it stays. Live shows are where Ratshit Strap truly unhinge. Their EP launch at the Buffalo Club was a sweaty, DIY triumph, packed wall-to-wall with punters and punk energy. Then there was the Pox Eclipse fundraiser, where the crowd dressed like Mad Max extras and danced like their lives depended on it. “The energy was wild,” they said. We believe them. They want mosh pits. They want dancing. They want joy. And they’ll deliver it with a grin, a riff, and probably a beer chug if the opportunity presents itself.

Their upcoming gigs include Buff Fest on December 6, another Buffalo Club blowout on January 17, and a slot at Nannup Music Festival from Feb 29 to March 2, where they’re up for the Emerging Artist Award.

And if you needed a final reason to love them? Their open-floor comment: “Billionaires and Nazis can just fuck right off.” That’s the kind of energy we like to see.

Follow them on Instagram, stream their stuff on Spotify, and catch them live before they rollerblade into the sunset.
