RATSALAD. Hits Heavy, Like A Punch In The Face

Fuck industry hype, RATSALAD play gigs harder than your headlining acts.
Meet the Gero locals rocking their way round the pub, the globe, and into your hearts.
So here's the scoop, they're bloody sick and they bloody rock. I could finish the article there but i'd be doing a disservice to you all. I first stumbled across RATSALAD from my Spotify Algorithm and I never turned back. From first listen I was hooked as if they were a fine wine, with notes of WAAX, Grinspoon, and Parkway Drive. Riffs hitting harder than Mike Tyson and catchy vocals giving Amyl & The Sniffers a run for their money.
RATSALAD didn’t form so much as stumble into existence, just a bunch of self proclaimed "working class dorks" from regional WA who cracked a few beers and jammed back in 2017. What started as a casual hang quickly snowballed into something louder, rowdier, and far more enduring than anyone expected. Between full-time jobs and chaotic lives, it’s a small miracle they’ve kept the band alive. But when the music’s this fun, quitting isn’t really on the table.

Jaz (bass & vocals) and Erica (drums) first crossed paths at the pub. Ken (guitar/ vocals) and Erica briefly shared a footy club. Their earlier gigs were Gero house shows, then came the wild callup to support prog-metal giants Karnivool on a few legs of their regional WA tour. Since then, RATSALAD have been grinding, dropping tracks, playing wherever the gigs landed, and refusing to slow down. Their first album dropped last year, kicking things into high gear. This year, they took their sound to Europe for the first time, proving that pub rock slaps internationally and worldwide... step aside Pitbull.
RATSALAD’s songwriting doesn’t happen in studios, it happens in the witching hours. Between 1 and 3am, when sleep won’t come, Jaz starts scribbling lyrics, one-liners, and poems into a phone that’s become a vault of emotional debris. Ken’s phone is its sonic counterpart, packed with riffs that range from furious to strangely tender... whatever felt worth sharing with other humans. When the band finally converges, Erica jumps in on drums and glues the chaos together.
For a self taught band who have never practiced at rehearsal space, RATSALAD are carving their way through the WA music scene. They state " It's full of lovely people doing rad shit for the sake of self-expression and good times". RATSALAD’s live lineup gets a boost from Kadin, who you may know from Perth band 'Post Nut Clarity'. If you haven't seen them live before, expect a high energy show, beer chugging and an atmosphere you'll never forget. According to RATSALAD, "Singing the words is nice, but crowd surfing is nicer". RATSALAD are currently working on their second album, with hopes to release it by March 2026
Catch them next Saturday (the 22nd) at SideFest 2025 and Nannup Festival 2026.
