There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when a band like Motion City Soundtrack returns to the stage, the kind that makes everyone in the room feel sixteen again. Metro City was packed wall to wall with fans who grew up on heartbreak lyrics and fuzzy synths, and from the first note, that nostalgia hit hard.

Frontman Justin Courtney Pierre walked out to a roar that felt like a homecoming. There was no slow build, the band came out swinging, tearing straight into their catalogue of pop-punk anthems that have aged like comfort food. The Moog lines were still sharp, the guitars still dirty, and Pierre’s voice still carried that cracked honesty that made Everything Is Alright one of the most cathartic songs of a generation.

Midway through the set, there was a small hiccup, a quick pause and a regroup that only seemed to make the crowd love them more. Fans laughed, cheered, and when the band kicked back in, the energy doubled. This wasn’t a band trying to be perfect — it was a band being human, and that’s always been part of their charm.

An emotional moment when Pierre paused to give a shout-out to Perth local and longtime friend of the band, Jessii Maloney. For the die-hard fans, it hit deep and you could see teary eyes across the floor as people clutched each other and sang even louder. It was one of those raw, unexpected moments that reminded everyone just how much this music means to people.

From L.G. Fuad to Her Words Destroyed My Planet and Everything Is Alright, every song felt like a release. A wave of old memories meeting the joy of being right here, right now. By the time the band closed out, the crowd was a chorus of hoarse voices and wide smiles.
Motion City Soundtrack didn’t just play a show; they gave Perth a night of heart, chaos, and connection. The kind that leaves your ears ringing and your chest full.
